People are sometimes unaware of just how good of a source of omega-3 seal oil really is. Other sources simply do not have all the benefits of this particular type. I just wanted to reiterate some of these in a quick blog post.
Basically omega-3 from seal oil has 3 types of omega-3 instead of just 2, which most fish oils contain. They contain DHA and EPA, but seal oil additionally contains DPA. This is very important as DPA has many health benefits on its own. The body can ultimately produce DPA from the other omega-3s but it's certainly not as efficient.
There are other benefits to seal oil as well, including people who are allergic to fish being able to take it since it's a mammal source, also seal oil is produced ethically from a known source. Our seal oil comes from Atlantic Harp Seals in the North Atlantic Ocean around Newfoundland. This is unlike fish oil whose source is often obscure.
Also, seal oil is better than most plant-based omega-3 oils, since plant-based omega-3s come in the form of ALA, which MUST be converted to DHA and EPA before the body can use them. In the end, the conversion rate is between 5-15%. Algae is an exception to this as it does contain DHA and EPA.
